NBC 9.8: Stairs, Ramps, Handrails and Guards Standards

9.8.1.1. Scope. This Section applies to the design and construction of stairs, ramps, handrails, and guards in residential buildings.

9.8.3.1. Stair Dimensions. Stairs shall be designed with the prescribed dimensions for rise, run, and tread depth to ensure safety.

9.8.7.1. Handrails. Handrails shall be provided on at least one side of every flight of stairs and shall meet the prescribed height and graspability requirements.
